Layers: Description: Head Start and Early Head Start Programs promote school readiness for boys and girls from low-income families by promoting their cognitive, social and emotional developmentfrom birth to four years and eleven months. The centers are designed to provide a a learning environment that supports children's growth in the areas of language, literacy,cognition and general knowledge, physical development, health, social development, emotional and learning approaches.The Early Head Start (EHS) program promotes and fosters the development of of pregnant women, infants and mothers. It provides special attention to each of the areas of development: physical, social-emotional, language and cognitive, according to the stage in development in which the child is in. Early childhood certified teachers are responsible for providing services to children at Early Head Start centers. Each center is organized by environments (groups), according to the age of the child. Children enrolled in Early Head Starts range from three months old to two years and seven months old.Head Start(HS) is a federal program that promotes the preparationof children between 0 and 5 years of age that comefrom low-income families by promoting their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start centers provide a learning environment thatsupports children's growth by providing the family nucleus comprehensive services including sociall services, health and nutrition, and cognitive development.In order to qualify for enrollment in HS program, the following eligibility criteria must be met:Child must be aged between 3 and 4 and 11 months of age as of August 31 of the program year for which applying admissionIncomePriority given to children with special needs (based on current Federal guidelines)Beneficiaries of subsidies from the PR Department of the FamilyChildren from the community where the center is locatedAdditional selection criteria established by each program based on local needsFor further information, please visit: http://www.acuden.pr.gov/ProgramaHeadStart_EHead%20Start/Pages/default.aspx.
