About this map: This depiction of wind hazard across Puerto Rico is based on 10-meter ERAS (ECMWF Atmospheric Reanalysis) data indicating hourly winds at .25 decimal degrees (1989 – 2018). The hexagonal grids utilized here provide a standardized method for overlaying multiple hazards each with different spatial representations. An average annual count of the number of times winds topped 30 knots (34.5 mph) is calculated for each hexagonal grid, representing 0.5 sq. miles, and is symbolized using an equal interval classification scale. |
