This depiction of tornado hazard across Puerto Rico uses Iowa State University’s Environment Mesonet data – an archive of environmental data from cooperating member observing networks. The hexagonal grids utilized here provide a standardized method for overlaying multiple hazards each with different spatial representations. The average annual number of tornado warnings issued (2002-2019) is calculated for each hexagonal grid, representing 0.5 sq. miles, and is symbolized using an equal interval classification. |
