About the map:
The depiction if lightning hazard across Puerto Rico uses data obtained from the World Wide Lightning Location Network (http://wwln.net/). The hexagonal grids utilized here provide a standardized method for overlaying multiple hazards each with different spatial representations. Average annual lightning strike frequency (2010-2019) is calculated for each hex grid (representing 0.5 sq. miles,) by dividing total lightning strikes by number of years in record. Data is symbolized using an equal interval classification scale. |
